Statistics Sierra Leone has over the weekend received a high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) team in Sierra Leone at the their headquarters at A. J. Momoh Street, Freetown.
The essence of the visit was to chat and brainstorm on the way-forward to having a successful Presidential and Parliamentary national elections come June 24, 2023, with the Stats-SL’s provided 2022 census data.
The Team Lead from the EU visitation team, Le Mounier Xavier Bertrand Phillipe commended Stats-SL for the warmth welcome they gave the team, adding that the EU Team is more than happy for the great strides the organization has made in making sure that it gets its acts together, as per its given mandates.
Phillipe noted that the institution put in its best in ensuring that the just concluded 2022 Housing and Population Census, became a success.
The Chief Statistician-General, Prof. Osman B. Sanko, fondly called Mallam O, in his welcome address commended the Team for visiting Stats-SL, adding that the institution is more than pleased with the support the European Union has offered thus far to the institution.
Prof. Sankoh disclosed to the EU Delegation that since he assumed the position as the country’s SG, he has made sure that he, together with the his team put in place modalities or strategies that could help the institution to realize its actual purpose of creation.
He further noted that Stats-SL has not only tried to improve on its mandates but, has also ensured that it delivers on its activities in time, adding that, under his watch as the SG, the institution has equally been able to conduct both quantitative and quality-based surveys which have tremendously helped Stats-SL to deliver great work for the country.
Another member from the EU Team, Maurice Phillip commended the Statistician General for the wonderful presentation of all that the institution has successfully completed under the leadership of Mallam O, noting that, as the body in charge of informing the public on the data base of citizens, and how developmental projects can be factored all over the country, must ensure that, they provide credible and biased-free data so that the Government and other organizations would know exactly how they will come in to support the country.
In his closing courtesies, the EU Team-Lead, Berrand Phillpe praised Prof. Sankoh for his astute developmental activities initiated in the institution while committing EU’s continued support to Statistics Sierra Leone whenever they knock at the doors of EU-Sierra Leone’s office.
