A student has been remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown following allegations of forgery and fraud linked to the alleged falsification of student fee payment receipts at Fourah Bay College.
Samuel Casangnell Macarthy appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where he is facing multiple criminal charges arising from incidents alleged to have taken place on the Fourah Bay College campus between 1 and 28 February 2026.
Court documents indicate that Macarthy is charged with two counts of forgery, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Forgery Act 1913; two counts of uttering forged documents, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act; and one count of obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
It is alleged that the accused forged two student fee receipts in the names of Isha Carew and Fatima Musa Turay with intent to defraud. He is also accused of using the said documents to mislead others and facilitate the alleged fraudulent activity.
Prosecutors further allege that Macarthy obtained the sum of 8,980 Leones from Isha Carew by falsely claiming to issue genuine fee payment receipts.
When the charges were read in court, the accused did not enter a plea, as the matter is still at the committal stage. The prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Tommy B. Zizer, informed the court that witness statements have already been served on the defendant.
Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations, and ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to 18 May 2026 for continuation of hearing.
