Several students at Njala University’s Bo Campus were not allowed to take part in their exams on Monday due to unpaid tuition fees.
According to reports, the affected students had shown up ready to write their exams, but were stopped at the entrance of the exam halls after failing to meet the university’s payment requirements.
Staff members were under strict instruction to admit only those who had cleared their accounts, and students with outstanding balances were asked to step aside, regardless of readiness.
Some students were seen waiting around the area, visibly upset, while others quietly left the campus. University officials enforced the rule across multiple exam venues.
The situation has drawn attention to the challenges many students face in paying for higher education. With fees continuing to rise, students and observers are calling for more student-friendly payment policies that could allow those struggling financially to sit their exams.
At this time, the university has not released any official response. Many students are hoping the administration will consider more flexible ways to support those with genuine financial difficulties, especially during exam periods.
I’m one of the victim and I felt so bad yesterday 😭 I felt rejected and humiliated because I was well prepared for me to seat and pass that module
Uptill now am stress because there is no way for now I could afford that fees because I have lost both the mom and dad 😭am helpless and forsaken ( ya Allah please see me through)🤲🏾
Opinion : Allow the students to write their exams and withhold the results until payments are effected
The administrative staff should have allowed student that have pay part of the fees to write the exam.
At least 60 to 70% should have been allowed, but such a thing is not happening. whether you have paid part of the payment but once you’ve not complete the payments you will not be allowed to enter the examination Hall.
