Sierra Leonean opposition politician Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has issued a cryptic warning to President Julius Maada Bio, cautioning him about his relationship with former President Ernest Bai Koroma.

Her comments come in the wake of an unrest in Freetown on Sunday which saw the Military barracks attacked and inmates set free from the Pademba Road Correctional Centre.

Curfew was also declared early on Sunday morning after unidentified gunmen attacked the military barracks in Freetown.

Sierraloaded learnt that some of the gunmen have been arrested including the guard of former President Ernest Koroma, who has now been announced dead.

Shortly after calm was restored in the country, Blyden took to social media to comment on the development. She wrote, “The Birthday Message nor been enough bo! Na for send Christmas Message back to am. Den you add New Year & Easter Message back!😡😡 Twwww. Enti u nor day learn!”

While the exact context of Blyden’s message remains unclear, it is interpreted as a criticism of President Bio’s efforts to improve relations with his predecessor. Some believe she is questioning the timing of Bio’s outreach, given the recent security unrest.

It would be recalled that on October 2, 2023, President Julius Maada Bio, for the first time since his election sent a birthday greeting to the former President Koroma. Before this time, the relationship between both leaders have not been cordial. Sierra Leoneans saw the birthday greeting as an attempt to foster unity and camaraderie among the nation’s leadership.

Blyden’s comments have sparked debate on social media, with some supporting her stance and others questioning her motives. Her message highlights the ongoing political tensions in Sierra Leone, particularly between the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the opposition APC.

Blyden’s enigmatic warning adds another layer of intrigue to the unfolding events, prompting speculation about the political dynamics at play in Sierra Leone.
