James Samura, a lecturer and the Acting Head of the Department of Hotel and Tourism at the Brookfields campus of the Milton Margai Technical University, was on Monday 4th April 2022 caught by authorities having a knife trying to stab students with the intent to cause bodily harm or injury at the Goderich Campus.

According to the source, the lecturer had refused to publish grades for these students. According to them, he had earlier stated that he would damage their careers.

Seeing him at the Goderich campus, the students walked up to him to ask for their grades. At this point, he reached into his bag and removed a knife to stab them.

His act is against the University policy which left his colleagues staff and students astonished.

Earlier on the same day, Mr James Samura was summoned to a meeting by the University Administration to answer to allegations he had made about the institution which authorities say risk bringing the institution into disrepute and undermining the indelible gains achieved over the years.

In the said meeting, Mr Samura insulted the entire administration and personally disrespected the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal by pointing fingers at him and shouting over his voice.

This presupposes that Mr Samura had the said knife on him whilst attending the meeting. It brought about many questions. What if he was going to use it to harm any of the staff during the meeting?

It was when he left the meeting that he had an altercation with the students.

Dr Jackson, a senior lecturer at the Goderich campus, after confirming that James Samura had a knife on him, showed his disappointment, stating that Mr Samura could have done better rather than having a knife on him as a lecturer.

Mr Samura’s action has posed a security threat to the entire institution, which has made the Acting Vice-Chancellor issue an order banning staff from taking a bag to any subsequent meeting.

Samura’s behaviour was condemned by the university administration and the matter is being investigated to take the appropriate action as such an act is frowned at.
