A three-man delegation from Sierra Leone has concluded a study tour in Ghana focused on the implementation of vehicle safety policies and regulatory frameworks.
The delegation included Abu-Bakarr Sheriff Esq., Secretary to the Authority and Board at the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA); Arthur Brima, Director of Transport at SLRSA; and Dr. Adams Steven, Senior Technical Director at the Ministry of Transport and Aviation.
The visit aimed to learn from Ghana’s experience in enforcing vehicle safety standards, including policies such as age limits on imported used vehicles and other related regulatory measures.
During engagements with officials from the Ghana Ministry of Transport, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), and the Ghana Standards Authority, the head of delegation, Abu-Bakarr Sheriff Esq., said the mission was important for strengthening Sierra Leone’s road safety systems.

He noted that the longstanding bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Ghana made the exchange of knowledge on transport and safety systems particularly valuable.
At the various institutions visited in Accra, the Sierra Leone delegation was received by officials who delivered presentations on operational procedures, legal frameworks, enforcement mechanisms, public awareness strategies, and data management systems.
The delegation also held interactive discussions on road safety strategies and transport service operations, with Ghanaian officials expressing willingness to deepen cooperation with Sierra Leone.

According to members of the delegation, the study tour was “very productive,” adding that it provided valuable insights into how Ghana addresses challenges in road safety and vehicle regulation.
They expressed appreciation to the National Road Safety Authority of Ghana for facilitating the engagements, as well as to the Ministry of Transport, DVLA, and the Ghana Standards Authority for their support.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra on Tuesday, 28 April, before concluding the tour on Wednesday, 29 April.
