Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, announced at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Rwanda that the Torma Bum Rice Industrial Complex requires $800 million to reach completion.
So far, $480 million has been secured, with the project expected to reduce Sierra Leone’s rice import dependence by 75%.
The initiative, which includes acquiring farm machinery, developing infrastructure, and expanding rice processing facilities, is part of Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to boost local rice production.
Additionally, Dr. Kpaka highlighted a $100 million commitment from the African Development Bank to support the project.

You read my mind. Instead of starting small small to get things going, they came up with an almost one billion dollar budget. For what? They have included how much they want to steal. And they are not getting that money. If this really gets off the ground, it will be a complete waste and failure soon enough. I read an article in this paper about BADEA checking out the project, which is to help irrigate 30,000 hectares. So they want 800 million to farm 30,000 hectares. Crazy. Thieves.
Santigie don’t be naive, by calling people thieves which yard stick did you take to determine them as thieves? By the way are you an expert in the field of agriculture? I just want to encourage you to be positive and stop beating the ground, be patient and don’t ever predict for this project to fail because it’s for the good of all. And so, let us pray for the success of Turma bum because since Pop Shek destroyed all this good facilities , there our food crisis emanated for the past decades on to now. It’s a good initiative by this government and so let us support it for the good of all and put politics out of it.
