Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has on Thursday released its 2024 Agency Performance Scores during an inter-agency meeting held at the Ministry’s conference room.
Permanent Secretary Charles Kamanda emphasized that the meeting aimed to review the performance of agencies under the Ministry, based on performance contracts signed in May 2024.
Transport Minister Ambassador Colonel Retired Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq. commended the agencies for their efforts and encouraged continued improvement. He stressed the importance of teamwork and collaboration among agencies.
The evaluation was conducted based on five key criteria: Policy, Strategy, Legislation Support; Institutional Administration & Management; Service Delivery; Financial Stewardship; and Accountability & Corruption Eradication.
The Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA) emerged as the top performer with a score of 63% (grade B), followed by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) with 60.5% (grade B).
The Sierra Leone National Shipping Company (SLNSC) scored 52% (grade C+), while the Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA), Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA), and Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA) scored between 49.5% and 51.0% (grades C+ to C-).
However, the Sierra Leone Airport Authority International and Inland Boat (SLAAIIB) and the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) received failing grades of F, scoring 27.5% and 12%, respectively.
The evaluation highlighted the importance of accurate and timely submission of performance data.
All agencies are required to submit their 2025 performance targets by January 31st. New performance contracts will be signed in mid-February 2025.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of aligning agency operations with strategic objectives to ensure effective service delivery and accountability.
