The ongoing treason trial, presided over by Judge Komba Kamanda, is set to conclude next week. Judge Kamanda has scheduled the summation of the case and instructed both prosecution and defense lawyers to present their closing addresses on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
He emphasized the need to promptly conclude the trial, allowing the defense to finish by Friday if necessary, before the jury deliberates and delivers a verdict.
Prior to this, the 12th accused, Abdul Sorie Ilassan Kamara, testified about his arrest on November 26, 2023. Kamara detailed being instructed to report to Lumley Police Station, then being apprehended by assailants, disarmed, and taken to Pa Demba Road Correctional Centre. He recounted escaping with a colleague and later reporting his experience to authorities.
During cross-examination, discrepancies emerged between Kamara’s statements and CCTV footage showing him near the prison. Kamara denied certain parts of his initial statement, challenging the investigation’s accuracy.
As the trial approaches its conclusion, both sides are set to make their final arguments, marking a critical point in the proceedings.
No one is guilty of committing any treason here. Maada Bio has absolutely No legitimacy as President and he continues to commit crimes against his people. Constitutional rule will be restored soon insha’Allah Sierra Leone
