Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has commenced the first-ever teacher licensing examination in all its district offices across the country.
This information was disclosed to the public through a press release issued from the TSC headquarters in Freetown.
The purpose of the examination according to the release is to create a new approach for the enlisting of new teachers into the sector.
It was stated that the TSC response comes amidst numerous concerns and fears about the mode of teacher registration and examination for licensing, which is conducted online only, adding that the exams will now be conducted physically by the teachers themselves to avoid any future concerns the process of recruiting public teachers for the government.
It was disclosed that the TSC has received over five thousand (5000) applications for this examination, and 2527 applications have been approved to go ahead with the exams.
According to the Director of Registration and Licensing at TSC, he noted that this maiden edition of the exam is a success as it accounts for 84.2 percent of the targeted number (3000).
He further stated that 1957 teachers who have already booked to write the teacher licensure exams have started the process across the country, adding that the examinations are ongoing and will end on 4th February 2024.
The TSC administration has revealed that bookings are in progress in all TSC district offices across the country and teachers who have received approval should proceed to book for the exams.
