Superintendent Akim Turay, a Senior member of the Sierra Leone Police Force, has responded to claims about his alleged involvement in the November 26th failed coup attempt.
This comes following a trending audio of a man identified as “Alias Sa-Jay” claiming that he was involved in the failed coup plot.
Turay took to Social Media to refute such claims. He wrote:
“Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to all Sierra Leoneans.
I write to inform Sierra leoneans that there is an audio going round which one “Alias Sa-Jay” is claiming to be the author of the said audio in which my name was made mentioned of.
First of all, I want to inform the general public that as a senior police officer, am against the ugly incident that took place on Sunday 26th November, 2023. I had never been part and parcel of such act, and I will never be included in such an unlawful act to cause unrest in the country. I believe in serving the government of the day and never to go against the disciplinary rules and regulations of the the Sierra Leone Police Force. Since serving the RSLAF, I am always on the right course of defending the government of the day and the people of 🇸🇱 Sierra Leone. Therefore, who soever that is trying to implicate me, neither to damage or defame my friendly character and relationship with fellow Sierra Leoneans will not succeed in what he or she is up to, because the passion and love I have for my country is quite different from takin guns and fight against my fellow Sierra Leoneans. I will make sure the law takes it right course against any individual that is trying to destroy my good image, and making mention of my name in such a bad audio with intention to cause loss of lives in this country.
I have experienced the negative impacts of war, and I will not involve in any cause, plan, help neither conspiracy that will breach of the peace of my beloved Sierra Leone.
I remain peaceful, and ready to comply with the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, to comply with the rules and regulations of the SLP, and to comply with the1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
I believe that peace brings development in any nation..
Thank you all.
Supt. Akim Turay.
🙏.”
