On Monday, June 24, 2024, the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt, visited the Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.”

During the courtesy call, Ambassador Hunt extended congratulations to Speaker Thomas for his historic election as the youngest Speaker in Sierra Leone’s parliamentary history.

“Mr. Speaker, congratulations on your historic election as Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament,” remarked Amb. Bryan David Hunt. He also expressed his keen interest in Idris Elba’s development project for Bonthe Island, despite not having visited the island yet due to the rainy season. Ambassador Hunt assured Speaker Thomas that the project would enhance Sierra Leone’s visibility internationally.

In response, Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas expressed his appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and assured him of the Parliament’s commitment to enacting progressive legislation under his leadership.

The Speaker highlighted the economic potential of Idris Elba’s Bonthe project and urged Ambassador Hunt to support it, noting its significant role in boosting the local economy and providing reliable electricity across the island.

Furthermore, Speaker Thomas informed Ambassador Hunt that the project had received Cabinet approval and would soon be presented in Parliament for ratification. He emphasized the project’s importance in advancing regional development goals.
