The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone successfully held its inaugural College Fair at City Hall on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, attracting hundreds of students eager to explore educational opportunities in the United States.
The event featured over 15 booths representing a diverse range of U.S. colleges and universities, from small liberal arts institutions to major research universities.
Students reportedly engaged with representatives from those institutions, gaining insights into the application process and how to select colleges that align with their academic and personal goals. The fair aimed to provide valuable information to help students make informed decisions about their higher education.
Ambassador Hunt addressed the attendees, expressing his hopes for the students’ futures. He stated, “I wish you the best of luck as you research your education options. I hope it is a small step forward towards a future where young people like you drive growth, promote stability, and create opportunities that elevate others. The United States stands ready to partner with Sierra Leone in shaping that future.”
Ambassador Hunt emphasized the importance of using student visas responsibly and encouraged students to return to Sierra Leone after their studies to contribute to their communities.
The event was well-received, with gratitude extended to the teachers and students who participated. Deputy Minister of Education Emily Gogra and Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr also attended, with Aki-Sawyerr hosting the event.
