The United Bank of Africa (UBA) Sierra Leone has appointed Mohamed Alhajie Samoura as their first Sierra Leonean Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), since they started operations in the country.
Mr. Samoura’s appointment came following approval of his nomination by the UBA Group Officer by the UBA Sierra Leone Board of Directors and no objection was received from the Bank of Sierra Leone on 1st of February 2023.
Before he is appointed as the new MD and CEO, Mr. Samoura was the Executive Director, of Business Development in the bank.
He is passionate about his job and has a strong drive to create an impact in the business and financial arena with close to two decades of working experience in the banking industry.
Mr. Samoura is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science, and a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration and Marketing, which he has used over the years to bring his wealth of experience and understanding of the country’s corporate and institutional banking landscape to further strengthen UBA’s strategic place in marketing.
His appointment as Managing Director is in line with the UBA Group’s strategic focus on domesticating the bank’s governance, products, and services to meet the local requirements of the host economy in all its 20 presence countries in Africa, and further supporting human capital development across the continent as local staff are exposed to international standards and global best practices.
