United Nations Population Fund, Sierra Leone (UNFPA) has taken to Facebook to congratulate Sierra Leone for passing into law the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Bill.

“UNFPA congratulates #SierraLeone on the historic passage of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act. It addresses gender imbalances by setting a 30% minimum quota for women in public office and advances equal pay & access to finance among other areas.” UNFPA congratulatory message reads.

The said bill was enacted into law by the Parliament of Sierra Leone, on Tuesday, the 15th November, 2022 after passing through a proper scrutiny.

The Bill went through, Debates, amendments, public consultations with partners and civil societies etc before it was finally passed into law.
