Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh shared updates on his ongoing agricultural initiatives over the weekend, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and employment through local farming projects.

Posting on his official X page, Dr. Jalloh described a visit to the Yemiyah community in Lokomasama, where he participated in a symbolic rice harvest, underscoring efforts toward self-sufficiency and economic growth.

The Vice President’s initiative, launched several months ago, aims to expand maize cultivation in the region, providing job opportunities and boosting local food production. “Very excited to see that a project I initiated a couple of months ago to grow maize is impacting the community in terms of creating jobs and increasing food production,” he stated. This project aligns with the national Feed Salone initiative, championed by President Julius Maada Bio, which seeks to enhance food security across Sierra Leone.

In addition to the maize project, Dr. Jalloh toured the nearby PC Agriculture industrial Onion Farm, situated approximately two kilometers from Yemiyah. The farm, managed with a workforce of 65 permanent and 200 seasonal employees, is set to cultivate 70 hectares of onions this year, marking a substantial increase in local vegetable production capacity.

“Feed Salone is not only gaining momentum but shaping a ‘New Direction’ in food production in the country,” Dr. Jalloh commented.
