Demonstrating strong support for the local disability community, the Welfare Society for the Disables (WESOFOD-SL) and its partner, the Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Medical Services (ORMS-SL), have distributed essential assistive devices in Pujehun Town. The donation, held at WESOFOD-SL’s district office on Gbondapi Road, included eight pet mobility devices and 20 crutches for individuals living with disabilities.
During the event, Mohamed Ezaka Sesay, the Executive Director of ORMS-SL, emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities, stressing that they are valuable members of society. He acknowledged the long-standing requests for assistance from the Pujehun district and noted that logistical challenges due to the distance from the capital city, Freetown, had delayed the delivery of support. “Although it took some time, we are pleased that our efforts have finally come to fruition,” Sesay stated.
He called upon stakeholders and humanitarian organizations to intensify their focus on helping individuals living with disabilities, remarking, “Everyone is a candidate for disability, and disability is not inability.” Sesay encouraged recipients to take good care of the devices provided, as they are crucial for enhancing mobility and independence.
Mohamed Sillah, the Pujehun district coordinator for WESOFOD-SL, expressed gratitude to ORMS-SL for their partnership. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advocating for individuals living with disabilities. “Since the launch of WESOFOD-SL in Pujehun district, we have achieved significant milestones for the disabled community and will continue to seek opportunities to enhance their lives,” Sillah noted.
Madam Amie Kemokai, Chairperson of the Sierra Leone Union On Disability Issues in Pujehun district, thanked both organizations for their invaluable support. She stressed that disability issues should concern everyone, given the vital role disabled individuals play in national development.
Beneficiary Amie Sheriff also expressed her gratitude for the assistance received, promising on behalf of her peers to make the best use of the donated items. “This support means a lot to us, and we will ensure that these devices help us in our daily lives,” she said.
The event marks a pivotal step toward inclusivity and support for persons with disabilities in Pujehun, highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving positive change within the community.
