The World Food Program (WFP) in Sierra Leone has donated 31 motorbikes to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to enhance their operations in the sector.
This donation came at the right time according to the ministry which may enable their staff to provide technical assistance to the WFP supported farmers in remote districts which include, Koinadugu, Falaba, Kambia, Kenema, Tonkolili, Moyamba, Pujehun and Bonthe respectively.
WFP’s support is part of UN’s goal to achieve zero hunger in Sierra Leone. The project will assist farmers especially those in the rural part of the country.
This also came as way to promote the president’s vision of FEED SALONE initiative in ensuring that, every Sierra Leonean goes to bed with a comfortable mind in terms of sufficient and sustainable food supply at all times.
Sierra Leone has a very fertile land and the majority of the country’s population is engaged in agriculture but the sector has been constrained by lack of modern tools and equipment. Mechanize farming is at low ebb thereby resulting in low harvest.
