The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Moinina David Sengeh has today added a new rule to not responding to anyone with a fake name on social media.

Moninina is among the few of the ministers in the world that that has public response to Sierra Leoneans. He is the only one in Sierra Leone for now that interacts with his fellow Sierra Leoneans on his Facebook account on issues affecting his ministry.

Recently, the education minister, David Moinina Sengeh addressed issues relating to teachers’ condition of services with relation to the memo written by a group calling itself Teachers Solidarity Movement (TSM) dated 21st April, 2022. This he took to his Facebook page for comments and the way forwards as he always does. Unfortunately for him, he was hit by an unidentified person name Mi Suarez to question he found disrespectful.

With dismay to this unfortunate response from MI Suarez, the education minister took to his Facebook account and Wrote:

“New rule. I won’t respond to/engage anyone with a fake name on social media again. My God this space can be intoxicating (and toxic)!”

Sierra Leoneans seeing this on his page reacted with different feelings. According to Derrick Doherty, he congratulated the minister for being the only one that interacts with colleague Sierra Leoneans. On his comment he wrote:

“you are the only minister that has public response and that is good our views will be different from yours and you are here to serve us, so if people are giving feedback that may not go well with you, it is because we are seeing things at a different level and it should be taken seriously just like how am still pressing on the horrible teachers working condition you might have a different view from us but thousands of teachers are not happy so it must be your responsibility to pressure the government for better conditions.”

The most frequent question asked to the Minister is that, how will he be able to identify Sierra Leoneans with fake names on social media, his response was that “I will give the benefit of the doubt where I’m unsure, but we know them when we see them… Particularly SLean names.”
