World Bank Division Director for Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Liberia, Robert Taliercio O’Brien, recently visited key construction sites in Sierra Leone to check on the progress of projects funded by the Sierra Leone Development and Empowerment Project (SLeDEP).
This was his first visit to the Leicester Peak site, part of the country’s ongoing efforts to improve its tourism infrastructure.
O’Brien was welcomed by the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, who gave him a full overview of the developments underway. The Leicester Peak site, located at the top of the Western Area Peninsula, is part of a larger plan to improve tourism facilities and position Sierra Leone as a more attractive destination for visitors.
The site’s design and construction are impressive, offering a sense of safety and comfort for both local and international tourists. While work is still ongoing, the quality of the development is already clear.
After touring the Leicester Peak site, O’Brien expressed his appreciation for the progress made so far and noted the complexity of the work. He also spoke about the strong collaboration between the Ministry, the World Bank, and other partners, which has been key to moving the projects forward.
The projects at Leicester Peak and Tacugama are expected to play an important role in the growth of Sierra Leone’s tourism industry, providing both economic benefits and helping raise the country’s profile as a tourism destination.
