The Minister of Internal Affairs of Liberia, Hon. Francis Sakila Nyumalin, has donated food supplies to support families affected by recent tensions around the Yenga border area in Kissi Teng Chiefdom, Kailahun District.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, Nyumalin, a native of Foya and a Kissi by tribe, traveled by road from Monrovia to Koindu, Sierra Leone, where he handed over 100 bags of 50kg rice and 50 jerry cans of palm oil, totaling 1,000 liters. The donation event was held at the court barray of Chiefdom Speaker Fallah Jusu.
During the brief visit, Nyumalin made it clear that he was not there as a government representative but as a private citizen and a close neighbor. He said he was touched by reports of Kissi people leaving their homes due to the situation in Yenga and decided to contribute food support as the rains begin.
He noted that the Kissi people on both sides of the border share the same heritage and culture, even though they are now separated by colonial boundaries. He said his visit was to show solidarity and offer help during this difficult time.
Nyumalin also said he hopes the Yenga issue is resolved peacefully and quickly, without the need for military action.
The donated rice and oil were handed over to local leaders in Koindu for distribution to affected communities in Yenga and surrounding areas.
