The Monuments and Relics Commission (MRC), under the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the National Museum and the Railway Museum, has launched the Museum Awareness Campaign (MAC) at Annie Walsh Memorial School on 25th September 2025.

The initiative is designed to deepen public understanding of history, highlight the importance of heritage preservation, and engage students on the social, cultural, and historical significance of museums.

Through interactive school-based discussions, pupils are encouraged to explore Sierra Leone’s history, reflect on the nation’s cultural wealth, and learn more about institutions that safeguard the country’s natural, cultural, and industrial heritage.

The campaign also provides opportunities for students to visit museum spaces and ask questions that enhance their appreciation of cultural conservation.

Speaking at the launch, officials emphasized that the campaign aims to reposition museums as vibrant cultural centers and inspire young people to adopt practices that protect Sierra Leone’s heritage for future generations.

The program will initially cover schools in Freetown and its environs. However, the Commission and its partners expressed openness to expanding the campaign nationwide through partnerships with more educational institutions.
