Mohamed Jalloh, Kadiatu Kamara, Osman Junior Kamara, Maseray Bangura, Kadiatu Bangura, Mohamed Kargbo and 48 others made their first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, on 2 September 2022. The charges range from disorderly behavior, riotous conduct, malicious damage, loitering, carrying offensive weapon and throwing stones. The young people were arrested following protests on 10 August 2022.
According to the Police, the accused, at various locations within Freetown, behaved in riotous and disorderly manner police also alleged that on the same date the accused were found throwing missiles and loitering within Freetown.
The Police said the accused damaged the K-Step police post, Kissy police post, Congo Water police post, Approved school police post, Wellington police post, building property of value the Sierra Leone Police.
The charges were read and explained to the accused persons. All accused pleaded not guilty.
Counsels representing the accused, F.R Conteh and nine others applied for bail and noted they have been in custody for 23-days.
However, Magistrate Ngegba refused bail and sent the accused persons to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 7 September 2022.
