On Sunday, July 21st, President Biden announced on his social media handles that he was stepping down from the presidential race slated for November and nominated US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate.
Even though there were speculations regarding Biden’s mental uprightness, his decision to quit sent a very strong message to leaders across the world, particularly those in Africa, who, regardless of their condition, are often willing to continue their leadership.
This decision marks a sad end to an impressive political career, one that allowed him to shape his nation significantly. It must have been a wrenching decision to make, and it is sad news for those who admire Biden. His choice to step down, despite recent lapses, serves as a reminder that our working lives are finite. The reality is that there will come a day when we are no longer able to perform our duties as well as we would like.
Biden’s action is an unforgettable example of leadership, wisdom, and courage, setting a precedent for African leaders who often wish to remain in power, unaccountable to citizens. Every leader should pay attention to this example. The time may come when they too are faced with a similar decision, forced to choose between their desires and what is right for their organization and team.
In passing his support to Harris, Biden has also done something every company leader must do: choose a successor in the event that they are unable to continue in their role. This is a critical lesson for African leaders: to step down when citizens believe it is time, to protect their reputations.
Leaders must recognize that it is the people who elected them, and when the people are fed up with the system, they have the right to voice their concerns, call for fresh elections, or possibly, for leaders to resign.
Nothing! I know it is your opinion for me not to challenge but I will say, you should have investigated more about African leaders before writing. Never have I seen an african leader suffering such as the USA president (mentally, physically and hmm) and still remain in power. The ones I’ve seen in Africa, normally suffered physically. Also, it is not for oppositions/losers to tell a ruling ruling president to resign but his/her political party. The USA president was forced to step down by his political party and not the opposition.
Teach teach them they are frustrated
Please get the facts here, about sleepy Joe Biden dropping out of the USA presidential race 2024. African leaders don’t have nothing to learn in that unwillingness drop out. Joe Biden is too old, he can hardly support himself even when walking, or standing up for little longer time. He constantly falling down, both in public and in private. He doesn’t wanted to drop out. Main stakeholders in the Democratic Party piled pressure on him to drop out, because of aging and other health issues. They asked him since to drop out, but he was reluctant to do so. There! I can conclude that, African leaders don’t have anything to learn from sleeping Joe.
