Kadiru Kaikai’s incendiary and belligerent utterances recently were vintage Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) antics. No two ways about it.
Before and during the last electioneering rallies, the man traversed all over the country struggling countrywide, but more especially in the South-East – buying loyalty battles for votes and dispensing resources and monies to entice voters to fall in en-masse for the SLPP flagbearer Julius Maada Bio. And in all those movements, Kadiru Kaikai had well-armed, ostensibly identifiable uniformed police protection officers in tow.
Policy
What was most disturbing during those political escapades of Kadiru Kaikai was that while they lasted, not for once did anyone from the Security Sector, or the Office of National Security (ONS), the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL), the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion Commission (ICPNC), the Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) or even the Political Parties Regulations Commission (PPRC) as much as batted an eyelid, let alone try to caution or reprimand him for those war-disorderly conduct that for those who witnessed them, must have been very, very frightening indeed.
What was more disturbing about the PPRC was busy training regiments and “levying humongous” fines against the All Peoples Congress (APC) supporters playing loud music deemed offensive to the SLPP presidential candidate. Back then was the norm, whatever Kadiru Kaikai said or did was SLPP policy. He was the most resourceful within the SLPP materially and financially. He took much pride in having a “traversed APC heartland’s unchallenged and would count that as a plus, obviously mistaking the high democratic tolerance amongst northerners for cowardice. And long and short of it all, it was as if Kadiru Kaikai was guaranteed state immunity and protection from prosecution for no matter how much violence his utterances and attitudes caused, as long as it was in the interest of the SLPP.
I am sure it is that long insulation of immunity from prosecution that he is the past from the SLPP that prompted Kadiru Kaikai to publicly threaten his current juvenile, inciteful and incendiary vitriolic utterances. He could comfortably continue with his guttural vitriolic effusions and installed as the President of the Youths in such catastrophic proportions and magnitudes, that the entire APC war look like a dress rehearsal. Observe that he was not alone in his country; the man had friends that transcended political parties and affiliations. In his own grotesquely village-like familial affiliation with not-to-be-named individuals on which he based the he could count on for support.
But in this stand, Kadiru Kaikai’s “cup hath runneth over”, as it would appear the SLPP has distanced him towards a limit of recklessness they would not go beyond. So they have taken umbrage and ordered for his arrest and incarceration, even though his detention center was not disclosed to the public. I have no reason to doubt that, but given the selective manner the SLPP are wont to dispense “justice,” one should not be surprised to cross Kadiru Kaikai having sumptuous lunch in down Crown Bakery – well-armed, uniformed police escorts to foot.
But again come to think of it, what Kadiru Kaikai was doing was something for which he ought to have been arraigned before a court of law. The ONS, the PPRC, the ICPNSC, the HRCSL, and the IRCSL all know that but have all remained quiet as graveyards in the past. And I maintain they are so because that is no longer the case and “very soon our graveyards will all be declared residential areas”. Yet it is not enough for the police to inform us that he has been arrested. If there are consequences and dangers for those supporting APC and other opponents of the SLPP. And they got away with it.
This could be just because I, we may still anxiously await the final reports of the Tripartite Committee on “Results Verifications of Electoral Justice”. My inference here is that of course the UNCOWAS would base their findings on whole actual when around the June 24th 2023 Presidential election was, and their list of those involved within the APC and SLPP forces who undermined them before, during, and after the June 24th 2023 elections for possible prosecution by the Special International Criminal Special Court right here in Sierra Leone, the more likely it realzations like Kadiru Kaikai’s of his world would come to see Sierra Leone as a fertile ground for anyone and anywhere.
Most of the time it has been erased that had recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) been implemented, we would not have witnessed the existence of the same category of people then and now submerging an entire election system besides how to survive an complete on their embers under the ravages of politicians.
God will not give this nation third chances. He would just take His patience off.

How good and pleasant it was for everyone, including the APC and SLPP to jump on the back of Kaikai, sooner he uttered his threatening remark. “…as it would appear the SLPP has distanced him…” by calling for his arrest and was remanded and released days after with caution. Let us look at the APC’s actions, when their vuvuzelas were terrorising the nation and calling for uprising, where were they? What was their reactions? Even the leader of the opposition once said they will make the country ungovernable for the present administration and until today, they are still after this administration. Who can blame Kaikai for his action, after he has seen the APC terrorising the country for over six years and nothing was ever done to them. I can’t wait to see the “Special International Criminal Special Court” bringing to justice all those responsible for the deaths of our brothers and sisters by calling for rioting all the time with their coup attempts on several occasions, of which, some of them have even fled the country all in the name of seeking medical attention…
The reason for Kadiru Kaikai’s distancing and even the SLPP’s disassociation from his actions and threatening remarks is rooted in the SLPP’s commitment to the rule of law, respect for Sierra Leonean citizens, and upholding democracy. The SLPP aims to maintain peace and stability in the country.
It’s important to note that when Samura Kamara, the then APC flag bearer, remarked that “if Sierra Leoneans want to see more trouble, let them vote the SLPP government back,” there was a noticeable lack of response from religious leaders, human rights groups, or security sectors. They did not enforce any laws or take any action against him. This inaction has set a precedent, making others feel emboldened to make similar remarks without fear of consequences.
Our actions towards our fellow citizens are pushing Sierra Leone backward every day. It’s disheartening to see that Sierra Leoneans do not show love for their birth country. It’s a unique situation where citizens can even pray for misfortunes to befall their own nation. What a shame!
If we don’t start taking our country seriously and showing genuine care for its progress, it will be very challenging for Sierra Leone to advance shortly. It is only when we embrace this country as our own and act responsibly that we can hope for a better future. Otherwise, I am afraid of what lies ahead.
Let’s work together for the betterment of Sierra Leone, promoting unity, respect, and adherence to the rule of law.
God is always willing and ready to give HIS people many chances as long as they call on HIM.
