There are ongoing arguments and counterarguments on various social media platforms, especially on WhatsApp groups, regarding the recent press release from the Office of the President confirming the sacking of three public officials by the president.
Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has just fired the country’s youth minister, Mohamed Orman Bangura, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Moriba Koroma, and Ahmed Saybom Kanu, Managing Director of Sierra Leone Shipping Company.
A State House release issued has not stated any reason for the sacking.
The announcement came sparking widespread discussions about the reasons behind the sudden changes.
Sources within corridors of power say that the removal of Youth Minister Bangura and Saybom Kanu may be linked to the recent tensions surrounding the lower-level elections in Tonkolili District.
The elections have been marred by reports of internal conflicts, and some believe the actions of the dismissed officials may have contributed to the unrest.
While the presidency has not yet released an official statement explaining the reason behind the dismissals, there are mixed feelings among the members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party in the Northern District of Tonkolili.
The two are the men of the moment in the District and will soon face each other for the Tonkolili District Chairmanship of the party.
While political analysts are closely watching these developments and predicting possible changes could signal a shift in the administration’s approach to youth engagement and internal party matters, many SLPP members and supporters might consider the decision shocking and painful.
Politically, or whatever way one might see it, the sacking of the two men will affect the district, and loyalists of the two politicians might be affected in one way or another.
Many welcome the news, especially when residents draw back their memories of the outcome of the just concluded lower-level elections that left huge damages across the district. With the shocking news, the issue would be the topic of all political discussions in the coming weeks.
As we tender our apologies letted dated 19 th march 2025, we firmly pleaded to the president to consider. As the letter is a joint solidarity of all the factors of Tonkolili District.
