Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr in Alleged Massive Embezzling Scam
Mohamed Foday Conteh The former Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has been accused of embezzling huge sums of money meant for the renovation of Cape Sierra Hotel.
B2B reported that the former mayor was entrusted with the transformation project of Cape Sierra Hotel into Hilton Hotel but has failed to complete the said hotel leaving thousands without job.
The allegation said the embezzling scam took place before she was elected mayor in the 2018 election.
The lack of completion of the project has left doubt in the minds of many about the ability of her to complete public projects with the hotel yet to be completed.
Aki-Sawyerr has also been accused of corruption by some members of her party and the opposition.
Many in the opposition SLPP has referred to her Transform Freetown Project has as a sham and meant only for the siphoning of public funds.
The former mayor will be running for a second term in the 24 June elections with analysts predicting that she would face a stiff competition from the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Mohamed Gento Kamara.
