A senior member of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party, Honourable Alpha Osman Timbo, has publicly indicated his intention to contest for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the next general elections.

The declaration was made on Friday, 10 April 2026, during a visit to the Rokus Mosque, where the former cabinet minister engaged members of the Muslim community on national issues and his political ambitions.

Addressing the congregation, Timbo reflected on his long-standing role in public service, citing his experience in government under former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and current President Julius Maada Bio. He said his leadership aspiration is rooted in a commitment to inclusive governance and national development.

The aspiring flagbearer used the platform to call for continued prayers for the country’s leadership, stressing the need for unity and divine guidance in addressing national challenges.

He also drew attention to the rising cost of living, particularly in provincial areas, describing the situation as deeply concerning for ordinary citizens. According to him, many Sierra Leoneans are grappling with economic hardship, a situation he believes requires urgent and practical policy responses.

Timbo further highlighted broader development concerns, noting that significant portions of the population continue to face poverty and limited access to basic services. He emphasised the need for targeted interventions to improve living conditions, especially in rural communities.

Underscoring the importance of inclusivity, he assured the Muslim community of his commitment to equitable governance, adding that religious harmony remains a key pillar for national stability.

He concluded by recognising the vital role rural communities play in the country’s democratic process and development, calling for increased investment in those areas to ensure balanced national growth.
