Sierra Leone’s main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) has strongly accused the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) to be behind the destruction of their banners in Freetown and other parts of the country.
The Party said that they have received “compelling evidence of the deliberate and callous destruction” of its campaign posters and other visibility materials in the capital and other parts of the country.
“In the Western Area alone, over 500 of such banners have been vandalised,” the APC said.
The main opposition criticised the act and attributed it to the ruling SLPP which they further claimed to have exhibited “dangerous levels of violence” over the years.
APC said their supporters have not vandalised banners bearing the images of Julius Maada Bio and Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh. They added that the reason for their restraint is because they believe in peace and welfare of the people.
They ended by condemning the action equating it to undemocratic actions and added that such act by the SLPP would undermine “harmony and cohesion” as the country edge towards the June 2023 polls.
