The Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, Alfred Peter Conteh has urged the Commissioner of the Electoral Commissioner for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Konneh to honour his promise of publishing the 2023 election results.

The ECSL Commissioner promised, as mandated in Section 93 of the Public Elections Act of 2022 to publish the results by polling stations,” the APC Chairman said on his official X account early on Sunday morning.

Conteh raised concern about the delay from the ECSL in releasing or publishing the results on their website as promised. He noted that his calls is to remind the Commissioner of his duty.

Conteh, in 2024, took the Sierra Leone population by surprise when he threatened to sue the ECSL if they failed to publish the 2023 election results. At the time, he said he was acting in good faith and for the democracy of Sierra Leone.

When the APC Chairman released his open letter, he garnered some support from some members of the public devoid of political affiliation. His supporters classed him as brave and militant in his approach for electoral justice.

However, he also received some backlash from some members of the public, especially his APC party. His opponent urged him to focus on party politics rather than external politics.

Conteh is regarded as a divisive figure among certain supporters, primarily due to his strained relations with senior members of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, including former President Ernest Bai Koroma. Supporters of Koroma, often referred to as Team A, have accused Conteh of fostering disunity within the party. Nevertheless, Conteh has explicitly stated his intentions when he took the APC party to court months before the 2023 elections, asserting that his goal was to promote democratic principles within the party.

Although he succeeded to a very large extent in this drive, there is still no love lost between him and some big guns within the party.
