Presidential Spokesman, Alpha Kanu, has revealed that the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has no criticism regarding the recent award of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact to Sierra Leone.
In an interview with AYV, Kanu emphasized that the APC has shown support for the MCC award and the opportunities it brings to the country.
Kanu remarked that, despite being in opposition, the APC sees the necessity for Sierra Leone to work together for national development.
“If the APC had any criticism, they would have voiced it,” Kanu stated, adding that discussions were held, and the party’s leadership recognized the importance of backing the government on this initiative.
“There is no opposition to stopping anything when it comes to the MCC Compact. The endorsement of this award has already been demonstrated,” Kanu explained.
He further expressed that, on this matter, the opposition is not seen as an obstacle but rather a partner in progress.
Having once been a member of the APC himself, Kanu spoke with certainty about the party’s stance. “I know the APC, I was with them. I know the kind of people we are dealing with, and they understand the need for national cooperation,” he affirmed.
Kanu also highlighted the significance of the MCC Compact project, particularly in improving the electricity infrastructure in Sierra Leone.
While the country already has sources of power generation, he noted that the project would focus on upgrading transmission and distribution lines, a key challenge in delivering electricity to the growing population.
“The transmission lines are our focus. Once we improve them, I am confident we can supply enough electricity to meet the country’s demands,” he said.
Kanu concluded by stressing that the MCC Compact will positively impact the lives of Sierra Leoneans faster than expected, thanks to the united approach from both the government and opposition
