The All People’s Congress (APC) has attributed the repeated postponements of its internal elections to a wave of petitions filed with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), rather than any lack of preparedness on the party’s part.

National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Sidi Yayah Tunis clarified the party’s position during an interview with Liberty Online TV, responding to concerns over the delayed electoral calendar. He stated that the postponements stem from ongoing complaints submitted to the PPRC, which he suggested were designed to stall the party’s internal democratic processes.

The repeated postponements are not a condition of unpreparedness,” Mr Tunis said. “As a party, we are fully prepared to conduct all our elections.”

The APC has encountered significant hurdles in its internal election schedule, with the PPRC ordering the suspension of constituency elections in areas where ward-level results were formally challenged. The Commission received multiple petitions against the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms, effectively halting constituency-level polls in disputed areas.

Mr Tunis expressed confidence that the party would still hold its National Delegates Conference this year. He also indicated that the party is making every effort to conduct ward elections as early as next week, following the resolution of outstanding issues with the PPRC.

The National Publicity Secretary lamented the financial toll of the repeated delays, noting that each scheduled election requires significant resource allocation. He explained that the party mobilises funds for every planned election and that cancellations impose substantial costs, not only in terms of financial resources but also lost time.

Anytime we set up an election, the party sends money for that,” Mr Tunis said. “Cancellations cost the party a lot, not only the time but the resources as well.” he stated.
