Sierra Leone’s opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party is set to finalize its position following the release of the Tripartite Committee’s Report on July 1, 2024.

Lansana Dumbaya, Esq., the party’s National Secretary General, made this statement on July 14, 2024, at Vine Memorial Hall, in the presence of a cross-section of Western Area constituency, district, and regional elected executive members.

According to the APC Strategic Communications Unit, Lansana Dumbaya, Esq., further appealed to APC members to accept whatever position the party will make, emphasizing that the interest of the party should supersede our individual interests.

He called on all members to exercise restraint, as the party will soon address its membership and supporters, in a bid to fulfill its obligation to communicate critical matters. He stressed the need for respect and adherence to whatever decision or position the party will make on Thursday for the sake of unity, peace, and progress, as the party needs to move forward.

The Tripartite Committee, consisting of representatives from the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government, the All Peoples Congress (APC), and moral guarantors, was formed in response to the contentious June 24, 2023, national elections.

The committee, led by Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh and APC Leader Samura Kamara, was tasked with examining and revising the electoral systems to ensure future elections are fair, credible, and transparent.

Despite some disagreements, the committee’s final report, featuring 80 joint recommendations, has been lauded for its potential to significantly reform Sierra Leone’s electoral system.
