At a recent meeting held at the All People’s Congress (APC) headquarters, frustration has been growing among party members and supporters over the leadership style of Dr. Samura Kamara, the party’s leader.

Many expressed concerns about his perceived inaction in the wake of the controversial June 2023 general elections, calling for a clear path towards achieving electoral justice.

Hon. Abdul Kargbo, the opposition leader in Parliament, voiced his disappointment during the APC Women’s Congress meeting, highlighting what he described as a lack of decisive leadership from Dr. Kamara. “If a leader fears going to jail, then he is not a leader,” Hon. Kargbo said, reflecting on the need for bolder action in the face of what he described as governmental injustices.

He also criticized the APC leadership for its silence on key issues that have affected party supporters, such as the killings in Makeni over the removal of a power generator, the Tombo unrest, the August 10, 2022 protests, and the violence at Pademba Road prison.

Hon. Kargbo pointed out that, despite these incidents, the party leadership remained largely quiet. He further emphasized that the removal of 10 Members of Parliament and the conduct of the controversial mid-term census were both accepted without resistance by the leadership.

Adding to these grievances, Hon. Kargbo highlighted the imposition of a proportional representation system, which he argued was carried out unconstitutionally, again with little pushback from the APC’s top leadership. He questioned how the APC could hope to win elections if these unconstitutional activities were allowed to go unchallenged.

Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, the opposition Chief Whip, echoed these frustrations, particularly over Dr. Samura Kamara’s handling of internal party matters. He accused Dr. Kamara of not taking action against supporters who verbally attacked senior party members and criticized his acceptance of the 2023 general election results while publicly claiming victory.

The calls for electoral justice remain a central issue for many within the party, with members awaiting a clear strategy to challenge the outcomes of the 2023 elections.

Meanwhile, the APC’s role in the approval of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) fund has drawn further scrutiny, as opposition MPs have insisted that the government meet key conditions, such as the implementation of the National Unity agreement and recommendations from the Tripartite Committee, before fully benefiting from the MCC funds.
