Lawyers representing Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has intimated that they will have to take legal action against the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) for failing to publish the electoral register.

“It is regrettable that despite pressure from good governance activists and political parties, Mohamed Konneh and ECSL have stubbornly refused to publish the voter register 4 weeks to general election,” one of the lawyers, Ady Macauley noted.

This development surfaced barely a day after another party member, Dr. Richard Konteh affirmed that the party’s National Advisory Council (NAC) is concerned over the snail pace with regards the publishing of the said register.

“The only option to force ECSL to publish the voter register is to use the Courts to compel them to do so,” Macauley said.

The APC party, perhaps, as a form of protest said they will boycott the ECSL’s Peace March scheduled to take place on Monday.

In another development, the ECSL have officially declared opened the 2023 political campaign. The commissioner informed political parties and members of the fourth state that the campaign will start on Tuesday and end two days before the elections.

The ECSL said the eve of the elections will be a cooling off period and possibly the day election materials will reach polling stations across the country.
