Reliable sources within the All People’s Congress (APC) reveal that National Chairman Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray plans to resign from his position.

His decision comes in advance of the APC’s 2026 National Delegates Conference and is said to be aimed at bolstering his position in the party’s upcoming leadership contest.

According to insiders, the APC’s National Advisory Committee (NAC) has been strategically positioning Mansaray as a leading candidate for the party’s flagbearer position in the 2026 contest.

“There is no doubt that the current de facto APC NAC is manipulating things in favor of Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray so that he will win the flagbearer position and eventually become our presidential candidate for the 2028 presidential election,” said a source close to the party hierarchy.

One of the recent controversial moves by NAC was the readmission of former Vice President Sam Sumana to the party, rather than reinstating him, which some see as a tactic to exclude Sumana from the flagbearer race. This decision, along with a registration and verification exercise reportedly intended to purge those registered by the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC), has fueled speculation that the NAC is stacking the deck in favor of Mansaray.

Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay, an influential APC stakeholder, recently accused the NAC of undermining other prominent party members, including two-time presidential candidate Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara. Sesay suggested that NAC’s actions reflect a broader strategy to secure Mansaray’s ascent within the party, potentially sidelining Kamara and other aspirants.

The APC, one of Sierra Leone’s major political parties, is gearing up for a critical leadership battle as it prepares for the 2028 presidential elections. With the NAC’s actions under scrutiny, party members and political observers alike are closely watching developments leading up to the 2026 conference.

As the party navigates this tumultuous period, the potential resignation of Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray as National Chairman could significantly impact the APC’s internal dynamics and the broader political landscape in Sierra Leone.
