All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant Paul Kamara has publicly declared that the APC “does not follow democracy” and has “outlived its usefulness.”

Kamara, a veteran journalist and former cabinet minister, made the comments during interviews with Truth Media and Wake Up Sierra Leone, where he laid out a case for his candidacy based on his disciplinary attributes and experience.

He argued that the party has been stuck in a “one-party mentality” since 1996, a system he claims has persisted under the control of former President Ernest Bai Koroma.

“Since 1996, when the party had democracy, till date, the party system should be forgotten, but up till now it is the same one-party mentality,” Kamara stated. He alleged that this mentality led to internal conflicts between the party’s founders and former President Koroma, which were only settled in 2017.

Kamara further accused the former president of disregarding the party’s new 2022 constitution, reverting to the older document. He criticized the party executive for selecting candidates for the 2018 and 2023 elections, reinforcing his view that internal democratic processes are not followed.

Positioning himself as the solution for both the party and the nation, Kamara concluded, “As a result of the wealth of experience that I have gained regarding governance, coupled with my disciplinary attributes, this has put me in a better position to be the President of this country.”

He emphasized the need for a “God-fearing” leader who champions change, stating, “I know I am the kind of leader this country needs.”
