The All Peoples’ Congress (APC) has clarified that it bears no institutional responsibility for statements attributed to Ms. Zainab Sheriff, following reports that she was fined in connection with her remarks.
In a formal letter addressed to the Chairman of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in Freetown, the party stated that the statements were made by Ms. Sheriff in her personal capacity and were not issued under any authority, instruction, or mandate of the APC.
The letter further emphasized that Ms. Sheriff has publicly acknowledged full personal responsibility for her statements and has indicated that she does not expect the party to assume any liability. According to the APC, she has also made it clear that she may pursue legal action against the party if any payment is made in respect of her remarks.
“Ms. Sheriff herself has unequivocally stated that her remarks were made in her personal capacity and accepts full individual responsibility,” the letter reads.
The APC argued that holding the party accountable for personal expressions by individuals who are not authorized spokespersons or representatives would set a dangerous precedent. The party requested that any enforcement action or financial obligation arising from the matter be directed solely to Ms. Sheriff, consistent with her acceptance of personal responsibility.
The letter concluded by reaffirming the APC’s commitment to cooperating with the PPRC and upholding the principles of responsible political engagement and lawful conduct.
