Former Minister of Social Welfare in the erstwhile Ernest Bai Koroma administration, Sylvia Blyden has revealed that the current Chief Minister, David Sengeh pleaded with the former president for a job in 2015.

This stark revelation was made public by Blyden on a Facebook post with a picture of Sengeh and the former President in New York, in 2015.

The former minister said she was the one who lobbied the former President to give an audience to Sengeh who at the time wanted a job.

At the time, Sengeh was begging APC for a job,” Blyden said. She said the act, at the time, presupposed that Sengeh was not loyal to the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) as he was not among those criticising the then-ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party.

The SLPP guys were doing their job as the democratic opposition whilst David Moinina Sengeh was begging ‘unprogressive’ APC for a job,” Blyden noted.

This recent debacle between Sengeh and Blyden is as a result of the former tagging the APC (Blyden’s party) as being ‘unprgressive’ in a TV interview. The comments received public outcry from both members of the APC and other political commentators last week.

Abdul Kargbo, leader of the Opposition in Parliament was swift to respond to Sengeh on X where he compared the current state of the economy under the APC and now (under the SLPP).

This was how APC handled critisisms to the extent that inflation never went up to 54% under our watch,” Kargbo said. “The cost of a bag of rice only moved from Le 60 to Le 200 in 10 years.”He also added that his party ensured all salaries were paid before Christmas and minimum wage used to afford three bags of rice.

There have been requests for Chief Minister Sengeh to clarify or rephrase his statement following a recent TV interview. However, he has not yet issued any comments on the matter, even several days after the interview aired.
