The National Deputy Chairman of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC), Osman Foday Yansaneh said there will only be peace after justice has been served.

The APC Deputy Chairman drew instances of violence perpetrated against his party prior to and after the June 24 multitier election this year.

Yansaneh cited an instance where the convoy of their Presidential Candidate, Samura Kamara was attacked at Mile 38, outside the capital Freetown. He said their candidate was also killed by security forces at the Mile 38 checkpoint.

He also referenced an attack on their party office by security forces days after the elections which resulted to the death of nurse later identified as Hawa Dumbuya.

Yansaneh said the boycott of governance was done in tandem with the wishes of the majority of the party’s membership.

He reiterated the request made by the party to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) which is for election results to be counted by polling station. This, he said is in line with provisions in the country’s Public Election Act (PEA).

There is currently a political impasse between the main opposition and the government. The APC is currently on a boycott of governance over election results. They said results announced by the ECSL have elements of statistical inconsistences.

The international community is currently at the front of brokering a peace deal between the government and the main opposition party.

Meanwhile, Yansaneh intimated that his party is willing to dialogue with the government under the supervision of the Commonwealth.
