Kelvin Doe, a talented young tech engineer from Sierra Leone, recently stirred a social media debate when he expressed doubts about former National Grand Coalition (NGC) leader Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella’s aspirations to become the President of Sierra Leone.
In a social media post, Doe humorously remarked, “I bet KKY still thinks he could one day become president of SL lmao.”
Kelvin Doe’s statement emerged in the wake of Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella’s recent switch from the NGC to the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP). On October 15, 2023, Yumkella officially rejoined the SLPP, marking what many see as a heartfelt return to his former political home.
Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella is widely recognized as a prominent figure in Sierra Leone’s political landscape. His reintegration into the SLPP is significant, as he has assumed the role of Chairman of the Presidential Initiative On Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security within the party.
Silly and thoughtless statement from this young man. Let me put it this way – the dream of every politician is possiblity of attaining the highest politcal office of the land. If so, then what ‘s wrong with Kandeh’s thinking? Besides, Kandeh is a bonafide citizen of the republique, so he has the God-giving and constitutional birth right to contest and if he wins become the next head of state. There’s nothing wrong or sinister about that, non?
Kky will never become a president in Sierra Leone. Anyone who betray the trust of Sierra Leoneans we will rise and campaign against him day and night. Let him think about other things to do because the SLPP has plenty people who are more capable than him
Each and everyone of us have our own idiosyncrasies and certainly, there is nothing wrong with having ambitions. When those ambitions are seemingly based on selfish motives even to the extent of trading values for valuables that is when some of us begin to ask questions. We need the like of Nelson Mandela and Lee Kwan Yew to help Sierra Leone.
