The Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh has debunked rumours surrounding the postponement of the June 2023 elections.
Konneh, speaking to Satellite Newspaper, assured locals that the election will be commenced at the appointed date of 24 June this year.
Konneh said they are currently working in line with the election calendar.
He said the Commission is applying the needed effort to ensure that the elections are credible and transparent.
“We are working assiduously to ensure we deliver as expected of the Commission,” Konneh said.
Recently rumours on social media said the elections will be postponed.
Meanwhile, the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) have been critics of the modus operandi of the Commission.
They accused the ECSL of being reluctant in releasing the aggregated voter register.
The ECSL did release the voter register but some supporters of the APC claimed that it was incoherent.
Sierra Leone will go to the polls in a multitier election on 24 June.
APC’s Samura Kamara will face the incumbent SLPP’s Julius Maada Bio -an opponent he lost against twice in the 2018 presidential election by narrow margins.
Unfortunately President Julius Maada Bio is not the legitimate nominee of SLPP. THE Socalled elections at the Bo 2021 convention was for the Executives of the SLPP and not for the flagbearer. Therefore, President Juilus Maada Bio election was illegal, unconstitutional and Yet, the social media, the stakeholders of peace and security are tight lips on the illegal and outrageous unconstitutional nomination of President Julius Maada Bio as SLPP Presidential candidate.
Thank you sir the election will go on at the stipulated time no postponed we are waiting for June 24th by the grace of God.
This is the first time opposition party is pushing for postponement of election. Are they smelling the rotten rar.
It’s usually the ruling party that delays election. Anyway this too is SL.
U have just start complaining victory for mada bio
We cannot go into an elections that has already manipulated or ridge in favor of the SLPP PAOPA we are not fools.
We can only go into elections that is transparent by the constitution .
Every necessary step and concern must be address and taken into consideration or else no elections.
And if ECSL try to go ahead with the elections without addressing the key issues raised by the main opposition party that is the APC, we will resist and fight and stop the process until the right thing is done.
We are ready and well determine for our right if ECSL want to create war we will endorse it for them.
Go police
