Veteran politician, Manso Dumbuya was re-elected as the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Western Region Chairman during the party’s primaries.

The election took place on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Freetown. Dumbuya won by a far margin after securing 94 out of the 188 valid votes. His closest contestant was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, who polled 65 votes. Abdul Hindolo Moseray secured just 29 votes.

Meanwhile, Beresford Thompson was elected as the Deputy Chairman with 116 votes, defeating his key opponent, Alimamy Kabia, with 34 votes by a wide margin.

Also in the primaries, Ambassador Abu Bakarr Karim won the male trusteeship after polling 82 votes while Ismatu Sesay got 99 votes to serve in the female trusteeship position defeating former Tourism Minister Memunatu Pratt who polled 72 votes.

Some analysts have praised the composure of contestants and their supporters during the elections. They said that the conduct of primaries will better position the SLPP as they prepare for the 2028 elections.
