The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has intimated that two movements have tendered their application to register as political parties before the June 2023 elections.
“The Commission is receipt of payment for application to be registered as a political party from two movements and is in the process of gazetting those applications,” the Commissioner said.
In another development, the PPRC intimated to the public that they monitored the lower level elections of the National Unity and Reconciliation Party (NURP) and the Coalition for Change (C4C) party. The two parties have now conformed to new PPRC Act and eligible to contest in this year’s elections.
The Commission furthered by urging remaining parties to follow suit if they are to contest in the multi-tier elections.
This new development has been greeted with joy by some members of the public who feared that the country’s multiparty system could be at the edge after only two parties fulfilled set criteria months to the elections.
