The National Grand Coalition (NGC) Chairman, for the northwest district of Kambia, Mr. Kanu has joined the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC).

Kanu made his intention openly during the APC party’s campaign in the district on Friday.

Sierraloaded understands that Kanu’s move is borne out of the decision made by their leader, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella to form an alliance with the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

Reports online have indicated that Chairman Kanu believes that Yumkella “disappointed the entire nation and the people of Kambia”.

The NGC Chairman is the latest to make a switch away from the party after hundreds of party members in Bombali and Karene joined the APC.

Earlier in February some senior executive members also left the party citing that it has lost direction of the mantra upon which it was founded prior to the 2018 elections. They accused Yumkella of being selfish – putting his interest above the party and nation in general.

Political analysts have forecasted that the alliance between the NGC and SLPP will not be progressive as envisaged by leaders of both parties.

The northwest district is a stronghold for the APC but NGC managed to win four Parliamentary seats in 2018 elections.

Some locals believe that the presence of NGC in the district contributed to the APC losing the 2018 elections to the SLPP.
