All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament, Alfred Ayodele Thompson has openly addressed misconceptions about his voting record and position on current legislative developments, especially those involving national security and the dismissing of the Auditor General, Lara Taylor- Pearce.

Despite speculation to the contrary, Thompson said that he has been consistently faithful to the APC Party since joining Parliament after the 2023 elections.

“Many people think I voted against the APC, which is not true,” he said. “Since I went to Parliament, I have never voted against my party.”

The APC MP clarified his position on recent votes concerning the Auditor General, saying that he was absent during two important voting sessions.

“I was not in Parliament when two of the laws were passed. The terrorism law was passed early in the morning when I wasn’t present. The other one, passed on a Friday, I was also absent,” he said.

The MP said that he cast a void vote because he was unsure of the individual’s guilt or innocence. “I did not vote for or against the Auditor General. I didn’t know whether she was guilty or not, so I chose to void my vote.”

He also expressed his dedication to party unity, and even suggested an act to present a “swear beef” to all members to recognise the opposing ones.

Some political commentators have said that although MPs are elected to represent their communities, most Parliamentarians do not vote against their party in Sierra Leone thereby indicating that they are more loyal to their political parties than the masses they represent.
