Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC), has announced that it will hold a press conference today, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Raddison Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.

During the conference, Dr. Samura Kamara, the APC’s presidential candidate, will address the people of Sierra Leone.

Dr. Samura Kamara’s speech is expected to convey the APC party’s dissatisfaction with the integrity and validity of the published Voter Register, as well as the poor quality of the voter ID cards issued to the electorate in preparation for the elections on June 24.

Lansana Dumbuya, the National Secretary General of the APC, stated that the press conference will bring attention to “serious electoral malpractices that could jeopardize the successful conduct of a free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process” in the forthcoming elections.

The party aims to highlight these issues to the international community, media, and the people of Sierra Leone.

In a previous public notice issued by the party on June 11, 2023, the APC leadership expressed their concerns regarding the repeated violations of the country’s 1991 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Public Elections Act (PEA) of 2022 by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL).

Despite the APC’s attempts to address these issues with the ECSL, they claim that the commission has remained uncooperative.
