The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has reelected Francis Alpha Kallon as its National Young Generation Council  (NYGC) Leader following a closely contested election held at the party’s headquarters in Freetown on Sunday.

Kallon secured 89 votes, defeating his rival Maada K. Kemokai, who received 74 votes, in an election monitored by party-appointed officials to ensure transparency.

The reelection comes after a disrupted first attempt in Bo on June 21, which was marred by allegations of violence and irregularities. The SLPP leadership condemned the earlier incident and relocated the polls to Freetown to restore credibility.

Ahead of the vote, the party’s National Chairman delegated oversight to four senior members, including Northwest Region Chairman Ambassador Bond Wurie and Eastern Region Chairman Umaru Kondorvor, to ensure a peaceful process.

The election was closely watched amid factional tensions within the SLPP’s youth wing. Kallon, an incumbent backed by Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh’s Radical Inclusion Movement (RIM), faced Kemokai, who was reportedly supported by First Lady Fatima Maada Bio’s camp.

The First Lady had earlier accused Kallon’s camp of misconduct during the Bo election, including alleged intimidation and improper voting procedures. However, Sunday’s revote proceeded without major incidents.

In a statement, the SLPP reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and youth participation, urging unity among members.

Kallon’s victory solidifies his position as the party’s youth leader, a critical role as the SLPP prepares for future elections.
