Alhaji Musa Tarawally, a leading aspirant in the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer race, has sounded a strong warning over what he claims is the growing practice of political oath-taking targeting vulnerable citizens, describing it as dangerous, immoral, and unacceptable in a democratic society.
In a statement that has sparked public attention, Tarawally condemned what he referred to as “satanic political oaths,” alleging that ordinary people – already struggling under economic hardship – are being manipulated and pressured into participation through fear, political intimidation, and exploitation.
He maintained that many citizens are being subjected to political abuse, claiming the practice is particularly affecting poor and defenseless communities.
“Our people are poor, vulnerable, and politically abused,” Tarawally stated, adding that some are allegedly being forced into oath-taking activities in parts of the Eastern Region, including Kenema and Kailahun Districts.
The politician, widely known by his slogan “Allah Is One,” presented the issue as more than just a political scandal, but a moral crisis that requires urgent action.
He accused those behind the alleged acts of taking advantage of citizens’ suffering for personal political ambitions, warning that such actions could deepen public mistrust and heighten tensions within the ruling party.
In a religious appeal, Tarawally expressed confidence that divine intervention would ultimately restore justice and protect those being exploited.
“God Almighty will save and free our people from this treacherous bondage,” he said, while also cautioning that those responsible will face consequences beyond political accountability.
He further delivered what many observers described as a prophetic warning, claiming that divine judgment would soon expose and punish those involved.
“I speak with the power of the Almighty Allah/God, and the nation will experience His might soonest,” Tarawally declared.
His comments come at a time when the race for the SLPP flagbearer position is generating increasing debate, as party stakeholders and supporters position themselves ahead of future elections.
Political analysts believe the statement adds a new layer to the contest, as it brings religion, ethics, and citizen rights into the heart of internal party competition.
Tarawally’s allegations are expected to intensify discussions both within the SLPP and across the wider public, especially around the issue of political accountability, the protection of vulnerable citizens, and the credibility of leadership contenders.
As of the time of publication, the SLPP leadership and other party actors have not officially responded to the claims raised by the flagbearer hopeful.
