The leadership of the United Democratic Movement Party [UDM] has issued a statement expressing concerns over the recent attacks targeting the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone ahead of the June 24 elections.

Below is the statement issued by the Chairman and Leader of the Party Mohamed Sowa Turay:

The leadership of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party notes with utter dissatisfaction the several attacks targeting the work of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) as it prepares for the general elections on 24 June.

We at the UDM believe that the ECSL and other election management bodies (EMBs) are working assiduously to conduct an election that would be peaceful, transparent and credible at the end. Throwing spanners at the work of the ECSL at this moment would only create room for questioning the outcome of the process. It is on this note that I am calling on all peace loving Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad to refrain from making utterances that would not only undermine the electoral process but subsequently subject the state to chaos and insecurity.

Let use concerted effort as political party stakeholders to support the work of the ECSL with a view to ensuring that they conduct a peaceful and credible elections for all and sundry. Let’s us embrace peace and resist any form of violence in the days leading to the elections and even after the process.
